About the Workshop
Plants are critically dependent on calcium signaling for many crucial physiological and developmental processes. Among others, calcium signaling is central to biotic/abiotic stress signaling, host-pathogen interaction, or symbiotic mycorrhization and nodulation. Calcium signaling is also involved in every aspect concerning stress and adaptation to climate change, turning the deep comprehension of its mechanistic basis into a compelling and urgent goal.
The field of plant calcium signaling field came of age over the past few decades with the discovery and functional characterization of multiple novel channel and decoder protein families, and new functional paradigms for their roles in plants. Many of these proteins and functions evolved specifically along the plant lineage and could not be deduced from animals.
With this workshop we aim at consolidating a strong international collaborative network in this field, with plenty of opportunities for young and mid-career scientists to present their work alongside established researchers, in a wonderful venue in the city of Lisbon. The scientific sessions will cover all levels from atomic, and structural aspects of protein function, up to organismal responses during development or host-pathogen reactions.
